Pain knows no boundaries and it does not discriminate. It runs through all societies, cultures, classes and identities; and because of this I believe everyone deserves a judgement free space to release their worries, no matter how big or small they may feel. As a mixed race person I believe acknowledging the uniqueness of each person’s identity is a crucial block in understanding how they have come to be.
How you identify with yourself shapes how you perceive the world, and how the world interacts with you further adds to how you feel about yourself. It's a cyclical relationship and worthy of exploration as this process can sometimes lead to distortions and can cause confusion.
I believe our roots are our stability, they offer us grounding and keep us anchored through hard times. When our roots are strong and stable they allow us to grow, explore and play but sometimes we lose connection with them and we become lost, stuck, and fearful.
Whilst digging into ourselves is one route to reaching our potential, it’s not the only way. In order to reach our highest heights we must look up and outward at our surroundings. This is something we are more able to do outside of a crisis and having the support from a trained eye can be transformative. Here are some questions to start asking yourself.
Valuable Questions
Who is my community and support network?
Who am I outside of my job/career?
What do I find meaningful in life?
How purposeful do I feel in my day to day life?
How do I feel when I think about my culture and identity?
